IQ-275 Intelligent Lighting Controller (smart dimmer)
For the new IQ-275 intelligent lamp dimmer (previously the IQ-175), this change greatly simplifies installation of the attached lamps as the lamp’s housing no longer needs to be electrically isolated from the chassis.
In addition, the power handling capability of the new controller has been increased. While the previous controller for P3 Lights, ST Lights and the Photon Blaster could provide 2.5 amps per side, the new controller can provide 6 amps per side. For the IQ-275 intelligent lamp dimmer the current rating has increased even more, from 6 amps to 12 amps per channel. When wired in parallel the new IQ-275 can source a full 24 amps, considerably higher than any current lamp dimmer available.
It has two possible modes of operation depending upon the type of lights you have, driving or fog lights. In Driving Light mode, when your motorcycle's high beam is off the controller will set the auxiliary lights to one of several user-programmed brightness settings depending upon the position of a brightness switch. When the motorcycle's high beam is activated, the controller overrides the switch setting and sends full power to the lamps. In Fog Light mode, the same brightness selection is used but when the high beam is activated the auxiliary lights are turned off.
In driving lamp mode, activating the high beam switch sends full power to the lamps.
In fog lamp mode, activating the high beam switch turns the lamps off.
If no dimmer switch is used and the yellow wire is left disconnected, the controller can be programmed
to operate the lamps at any brightness from off to 100% when the high beam is off. If more brightness
levels are required, a two or three position toggle switch or a momentary-contact pushbutton
switch may be connected to the yellow wire as shown.
The table below shows the default brightness settings for each switch position.

Any 3-position switch may be used to switch brightness levels.
One example is the Trail Tech handlebar switch.
Note that each of the three positions may be programmed to any brightness setting, including off.
With this configuration, brightness settings for various riding conditions can be programmed into the
IQ-275 and instantly selected with the flick of the thumb, rather than having to look at and twist
a small knob as is required with other LED dimmers. Connect the IQ-275's white wire to the bike's
high beam wire to enable maximum brightness whenever the high beam is on.
When converting an off-road bike for road use, the switch or any other 3-position, center-off switch,
programmed to OFF, LOW and HIGH brightness settings, can be used as a headlight switch . In such a
configuration the white wire would only be used only during the initial programming of the controller to set
the desired brightness levels. Programming is done by touching the white wire to +12 volts, as described in
the programming section of the manual. The white wire is then insulated and tucked out of the way.
Note that the button on this switch, as well as the high beam, may be used to program the IQ-275 and activate
the ALERT! feature on the IQ-275-A. The wiring for this is illustrated below.

The horn can also be used as an ALERT trigger, by connecting the hot lead on the horn to the
IQ-275-A's white wire.

When you need to maximize your visibility, just tap your high beam switch twice within one second, and the controller instantly responds with a brief, but highly conspicuous flashing sequence. No matter what brightness you have the lamps set to, even if they're off, they will immediately flash at maximum brightness in a very conspicuous sequence, like an over-caffeinated high-beam switch. The sequence takes less than two seconds, but will greatly improve your likelihood of being seen. Normal application of the high beam or a single tap will not trigger the ALERT! sequence, so it has no effect on your usual riding style.

Note 2: Some LEDs have 3 wires rather than 2, where the third wire is a dimmer input. These include :
- Denali dual-intensity DX and D2 models
- Cyclops Optimus
- VisionX Optimus
Note 3: While the great majority of aftermarket LED lights can be used with the IQ-275, a few are designed such that they will not operate properly with a dimmer. These include:
- Rigid Industries D Series Lamps (D2 and Dually) and SR models. Models manufactured after 7/2013 are no longer able to support the IQ-275 or any other dimmer due to a design change. Other Rigid LEDs work with our controller.
- KTM 990 Supermoto Auxiliary LED Light Kit, part number: 62014910033.
- Denali D4: While early Denali D4 LED's were fully compatible with the IQ-175 & IQ-275, the current model of this lamp is no longer able to support the IQ-275 or any other dimmer due to a design change. Other Denali LEDs work with our controller.

Item was easy to install after I got the correct size Posi-Tap, (1 supplied is too big for BMW Can-Bus wires 22awg).

REPLY FROM MCI: The Posi-taps included with the Skene Lights IQ-275 are intended for connection on typical headlight or heavier ground wires. They are too large for the thin 22 gauge CANbus wires. The IQ-275 connects independently from the CANbus so there is no need to tap any of the CANbus wires. However, alternative Posi Tap sizes can be purchased from us as well
