The wide Aluminum Safety Frame provides tough protection for rider and handlebar controls in case of tip-overs or impact with outcroppings on a narrow trail. With or without the front Insert installed, the Frame covers not only the hands, but also the control levers and switches.

They are a nice quality accessory. Be aware of issues of them contacting the windshield. They are just hitting the stock windshield when it is in the low position and will be a problem with wider aftermarket windshields.
Installed them last week, they look very nice, excellent packaging, very easy installation. Rode the bike in cold weather, hands were nice and warm, better than BMW's joke handguards. Looking forward to hot weather and taking inserts out for extra ventilation.
I really liked quality of the hardware. I installed these on R1200GS with an aftermarket windshield, I figured GSA kit will be needed for extra clearance and I was right. Guards still touch the windshield, but just barely, they won't break anything at full handlebar lock. My only small annoyance is two hex bolts, I wish they had all of them with torx heads for BMW.
